Here's what Conrad told the cops: The L.A.P.D. Interview

Here is what happened the day Michael Jackson died, in the words of the man accused of involuntary manslaughter in the pop icon's death.

Friday, the court (and the public) heard for the very first time Dr. Conrad Murray's interview with L.A.P.D. detective Scott Smith, conducted two days after Michael Jackson's death.

Here, in chronological order and separated by topic, are the "must know" highlights of this crucial piece of evidence.

The doctor-patient relationship

- Dr. Conrad Murray says Michael Jackson asked him to be his doctor during the “This Is It” concert series, but AEG paid his salary

- In 2006, he was referred to Jackson through a patient's son.  Jackson requested a doctor to help with flu symptoms he and his children were experiencing

- Jackson was visiting other doctors that Dr. Murray didn't know about

- Says Jackson's rehearsal the night before he died went well

 


Events leading to Jackson's death

- Jackson told Dr. Murray he was tired when he arrived at his home on Carolwood Drive on June 24, 2009

- The night before Jackson died, Dr. Murray rubbed cream on Jackson's body to treat his vitiligo

- Says Jackson could not sleep naturally so he gave him a pill of lorazepem

- Dr. Murray started an I.V. on Jackson near his knee and administered 2 mg of lorazepam

- Jackson fell asleep for 10 to 15 minutes

The morning of June 25, 2009

- Around 4 a.m. June 25, 2009 Jackson started to complain that if he couldn't sleep he would have to cancel the tour and rehearsals

- At 7:30 a.m. Jackson was still wide awake and Dr. Murray administered more of the anesthetic midazolam

- At 10:00 a.m. Jackson is still awake and complains about not sleeping and says he will have to cancel rehearsals

- Around 10:30 a.m. on morning of death, Jackson requested the anesthetic propofol

- Dr. Murray administered 25mg of propofol and Jackson finally fell asleep

- Jackson knew propofol was the only drug that would help him sleep

- Jackson told him that he had infused propofol himself with other doctors

- Dr. Murray had trouble starting an I.V. on Jackson, because of clotting

Conrad  details Jackson's sleep demands

- Dr. Murray tells the story of when Jackson requested propofol for the first time

- Before taking over the care of Jackson he consulted with a Dr. Adams

- Dr. Murray said it seemed Jackson took propofol every day

- Jackson told Dr. Murray that he needed to sleep 15 to 18 hours to perform

- Jackson told Dr. Murray that he had other doctors on tour helping him sleep 18 hours

- Dr. Adams told him working for Jackson in Las Vegas he made $600,000 annually

- Jackson told Dr. Murray he wanted him to be his doctor forever

- Dr. Murray said Jackson told him about how he wanted to start a children’s hospital

- Investigators steer interview back to what happened the night Jackson died

Michael Jackson is found unresponsive

- Dr. Murray returns to the timeline and says after he had administered the 25mg propofol and Jackson fell asleep, he eventually left to go to the bathroom

- Dr. Murray says he was only away from Jackson’s side a couple of minutes

- When Dr. Murray came back he noticed Jackson was not breathing

- He immediately started chest compressions and rescue breathing, says he could not move Jackson off the bed by himself; used one-hand chest compressions

- Dr. Murray says he had trouble finding a phone that worked in Jackson’s home

- While conducting chest compression’s Dr. Murray called Jackson’s assistant

- Dr. Murray says he was confused about Jackson’s address

- Dr. Murray lifted Jackson’s legs to push blood to his heart

- Dr. Murray administered flumazenil to combat the effects of sedatives

- He then requested security guard Alberto Alvarez call 911

Paramedics take Jackson to the hospital

- When paramedics showed up Jackson was still not breathing

- Dr. Murray encouraged paramedics to administer a variety of drugs

- Dr. Murray urged paramedics to not give up on Jackson

- Paramedics wanted to declare Jackson dead in his bedroom

- At UCLA Medical Center, doctors tried to revive Jackson for about an hour

- Dr. Murray wanted an autopsy, because he didn’t understand the death

Treating Michael Jackson's inability to sleep

- Dr. Murray says he had been concerned with Jackson’s inability to sleep

- 3 days before he died, Dr. Murray started to wean Jackson off propofol

- Dr. Murray wanted Jackson to sleep naturally

- 3 days before his death Dr. Murray started using other drugs like lorazepam

- Jackson fought Dr. Murray on weaning him off propofol

- Two nights before he died Jackson was given no propofol

- Jackson claimed to not like going without propofol

- The next night Jackson couldn’t sleep

- Dr. Murray says he wanted to help Jackson and he was compassionate

- Judge Pastor stops the recording
